Mark’s Makeover

Have you ever had to renovate your occupation? By that I mean: pursue a new profession, acquire a new skill, launch a new business or product line or just expand your thinking about why you do what you do. I did that recently. Surprise, surprise … it’s exacting, exhilarating and exhausting.

When I passed my 60th birthday, it dawned on me that it was a good time to rethink how I would spend the remaining years of my work life. As a leadership coach for the past 20 plus years, I enjoyed working with business owners who wanted to improve their management skills and improve other aspects of their enterprise. However, that path began to get a bit mundane. I wanted to interact with entrepreneurs in a new way.

My favorite Bible passage is Proverb 3:5,6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” I decided that the final stretch of my professional path had to take me in a direction that honored God, helped others and provided the satisfaction of putting all of my life experiences to good use.

An Online Adventure

It was clear to me that the Internet offered the platform for meeting my objective. I just had to figure out how to use it. No small task for a non-techie guy who was knocking on the door of Social Security. However, with some help from some techno-gurus, I launched That was more than a year ago. Just getting the basic WordPress blog designed and operational, creating a newsletter, setting up social media sites, writing and posting some articles … Sheesh! It’s been overwhelming … and exciting.

Joining the A-Team

Then along came an opportunity to affiliate with an outstanding Christian business organization that provides the perfect complement to my blog: Crown Business. More than 35 years ago, noted author, radio personality and financial counselor Larry Burkett started a business outreach that became Crown Financial and Crown Business. Larry’s classic,  Business by the Book asserts that God has a plan for operating a business according to time-tested principles and a biblical worldview.
